Mark Pimentel, MD, is the head of the Pimentel Laboratory and executive director of the Medically Associated Science and Technology (MAST) Program at Cedars-Sinai. This program focuses on the development of drugs, diagnostic tests, and devices related to conditions of the microbiome. In this Q&A session, Dr. Pimentel discusses his path from growing up in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada to leading one of the world’s most renowned medical research institutes. He also describes his early challenges in overcoming resistance to a new approach to treating IBS and the microbiome, as well as subsequent successes with the innovative MAST Program and its inventions.
